Trading on New Terms: Civil Society and North American Free Trade

The 2019 FPA Research Excellence Award Symposium

Will the changes in North American trade reinvigorate 1990s-style domestic and transnational activism? What will be the impact of the new USMCA trade agreement? Has there been greater input from both business and non-business civil society organizations to influence the nature and content of the Canadian negotiations?

Carleton University’s Laura Macdonald, a Professor in the Department of Political Science, raises these questions and more at a day-long symposium organized into three panels.

Join scholars from Canada, Mexico and the United States, and civil-society representatives, in a discussion of this important topic.

      Speakers will include:

Carlos Heredia, Associate Professor, Department of International Studies at Centro de Investigaciones y Docencia Económicas (Mexico City, Mexico)

Angella MacEwen– Senior Economist at CUPE

Laura Macdonald, Professor in the Department of Political Science and the Institute of Political Economy at Carleton University, 2018 FPA Research Excellence Award Winner

Christopher Sands, Senior Research Professor at the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), a graduate division of Johns Hopkins University (Washington, DC, USA)

The event is free to attend. It is part of 2019 FPA Research Month.
